This art lesson was inspired by Indigenous stories of The Three Sisters. There are many versions of this story originating from nations and tribes throughout the Americas. The stories vary slightly but have in common the benefits of planting these crops together. Each plant benefits the other, this is called Companion Planting. After listening to the story, discuss the events before starting the art. I guarantee your students will have an opinion about what happens in the story! This Budget Friendly Art Project is easy and engaging. You do not have to use a cardboard circle, you can create a symmetrical design on a square too! Get creative!
