The First Strawberries, the perfect lesson for Spring!

This Native American project is a great activity to welcome SPRING! The inspiration for this lesson comes from a book by Joseph Bruchac: The First Strawberries. This is a Cherokee story that teaches us the importance of forgiveness. Students will create a Strawberry relief sculpture combined with painting techniques.

Included are:

  • comprehension questions for the story (book not included)
  • step by step procedures to create a strawberry plant with clay
  • discussion questions to inspire painting
  • a student reflection
  • links to strawberry coloring sheets to print
  • art standard checklist

Students will love the simple technique and method they can use to create the unique textures of the strawberry!
